Mechanical Test
Mechanical testing is a crucial process in materials science and engineering, carried out to assess the physical and mechanical properties of a material with precision. In this method, controlled forces, loads, or stresses are applied to a test specimen while its response is carefully observed and measured. The purpose is to understand the material’s strength, durability, and performance under real-world conditions. Such testing ensures reliability, safety, and suitability of materials for their intended applications.
What is its working procedure:
Sample Preparation
A small piece of the material is cut or shaped according to standard dimensions. This ensures the test results are accurate and comparable.
Mounting the Specimen
The material / specimen is fixed in a testing machine designed for the specific test like tensile tester, hardness tester, impact tester, etc.
Application of Load / Force
A controlled force, load, or stress is applied gradually or suddenly, depending on the test- pulling, compressing, bending, repeated loading etc.
Analysis
Results are compared with standard requirements to check if the material is strong, ductile, hard, or tough enough for its intended use.
